This workshop began as a project for my instruction course. I started by conducting a literature review of the information needs of online daters. Both the number of people in the United States participating in online dating (estimated at over 40 million!) and the information literacy skills involved (finding and evaluating appropriate websites, using email and chat) convinced me that there was a need for a workshop.
There were around a dozen people in the class and it was roughly split male / female.
The average age was 40+ .
Some lessons learned:
•gender differences came up during discussions
•preparing for computer snafus is key
•humor is good
•people can get different things out of the same course (as indicated on a brief exit survey)
Curious about how it was advertised?
