Museums-East Bay Through January 16
AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSEUM AND LIBRARY AT OAKLAND ongoing. The Oakland Public Library’s museum is designed to discover, preserve, interpret and share the cultural and historical experiences of African Americans in California and the West. In addition, a three-panel mural is on permanent display.

Valatie man becomes one of few to make Eagle Scout
KINDERHOOK — Thomas Edward Cleland joined the ranks of a very small group of men Saturday, one of less than 400 since 1922. The 18-year-old from Valatie became an Eagle Scout in a ceremony held at the McNary Center of St. Paul’s Church in Kinderhook.
