HUMPHREYS GARRISON – About 200 members of the USAG-Humphreys Community attended Family Safety Day, held in the vicinity of the Community Activity Center, here, May 22.
The event, hosted by the Installation Safety Office, featured information booths from various community organizations, a Fire Department-themed bouncy house and slide for children, a cookout, and prize giveaways.
Among the organizations that participated were: Army and Air Force Exchange Service, Army Substance Abuse Program, United Service Organizations, Drug Abuse Resistance Education, and the Korean Diabetes Association.
In honor of Bicycle Safety Month, AAFES representative, Tom Reid, discussed the importance of wearing protective gear while riding a bicycle. At his booth, children and parents watched a video that demonstrated the effects of body and brain injuries when not wearing a helmet. The booth also displayed helmets, other protective gear, such as reflective vests and belts, and registration forms that people can fill out to ride a bicycle on base.
At another booth, the Korean Diabetic Association from Pyeongtaek International Hospital, tested people’s blood pressure and blood sugar.
The event, which is usually held in June, was held earlier this year to help prepare community members before summer arrives.
At the event’s conclusion, children received prizes such as bicycles, helmets, protective wear, and water guns.
In addition to the Safety Day activities, the Safety Office hosted a grand opening of its Motorcycle Training course.
